Police officers from Oyugis Police Station carried out a raid in Oyugis Town on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of more than 200 large rolls of suspected cannabis sativa. The operation targeted a residence believed to be linked to illegal drug activities and resulted in the seizure of several items that investigators say may be connected to criminal operations.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 25, were taken into custody during the raid as officers moved in on the premises following intelligence reports. Authorities said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the National Police Service to address drug trafficking and protect communities from the harmful effects associated with narcotics.
Police said that during the operation, officers recovered over 200 large rolls of suspected cannabis sativa from the location. A further search of the house where the suspects were staying uncovered additional items that investigators believe could be linked to unlawful activities.
Among the items found were eleven mobile phones, one Dell laptop, two HP laptops, a weighing machine, a laptop charger, and one tablet. Officers also recovered a blue Honda motorbike whose number plates had been removed, as well as a police smock jacket.
“These arrests highlight the continued threat posed by illicit drugs, which significantly undermine the well-being, productivity, and future prospects of the youth,” a police statement read.
The three suspects are currently being held in custody and are expected to be presented in court once investigations are completed. Police confirmed that all the items recovered during the raid have been secured as exhibits to assist in further investigations into the suspected drug activities.
Authorities said the operation forms part of a wider crackdown targeting drug trafficking in the region. Law enforcement officers are focusing on breaking criminal networks involved in the production, movement, and sale of illegal drugs in Oyugis Town and nearby areas.
Police emphasized that their efforts are aimed at safeguarding the community and preventing the spread of illicit substances that continue to affect many young people.
“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public,” the statement added.
Residents have also been urged to remain alert and work closely with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities within their communities. Police noted that cooperation from members of the public plays an important role in preventing crime and ensuring safety.
Officers further warned that drug trafficking and other criminal activities in Oyugis Town and surrounding areas will continue to face firm action from authorities.
The raid is among several recent operations carried out in the region targeting the cultivation, transportation, and sale of illegal drugs as part of the countrywide campaign to address narcotics-related crime.
Police said such operations are meant to reduce the availability of illegal substances and protect young people from the dangers linked to drug abuse, while also strengthening the presence of law enforcement in the region.
